The mental health benefits of completing jigsaws has been widely recognized during the past year of the pandemic and lockdowns. As people transition back to ‘normal’ life, Wentworth Wooden Puzzles has designed and released a new range of ‘Mini Mindful’ jigsaw puzzles with the aim to provide the mindfulness and wellbeing benefits that puzzles have provided, into a small, achievable size which can easily slot into people’s days. The Puzzles launched on 6th May, in time for Mental Health Awareness week, with 10% of Mini Mindful puzzle sales, between 7th and 14th of May, being donated to Mind, a leading UK Mental Health charity.
Information from the Mental Health Foundation states that mindfulness can be a useful tool to help manage mental wellbeing and in turn, mental health. It’s been shown to help reduce stress levels, as well as feelings of depression and anxiety.
Simon Alexander Ong, a life coach, motivational speaker and mindfulness expert comments: “In an increasingly noisy and connected world, the ability to be mindful and disconnect is an undervalued superpower. It grounds us in the present moment, allowing us to savour what life has to offer and engage more fully with it. And a great way to achieve this, while sharpening our minds in the process, is through the activity of completing puzzles, such as jigsaws. Mindfulness breaks such as these provide us with the opportunity to recharge, reflect and refocus on what matters most,” he says.
The new collection of 14, 40-piece jigsaw puzzles, costing £7.50 each, are a mix between tricky, repetitive images with a tessellated extra-difficult cut pattern, and nature-themed images with their iconic themed whimsy pieces, which perfectly match this years Mental Health Awareness week theme of Nature. They are specially designed to take around 20-30 minutes, making them easy to fit into the day, whenever people might need to ease their thoughts or bring their focus to the present.
Sarah Watson, Managing Director at Wentworth Wooden Puzzles says: “During lockdown, demand and sales for jigsaw puzzles with larger piece counts increased dramatically, as people searched for a pastime or activity that would keep them preoccupied for long periods of time. However, as people return to work, either coming off furlough or potentially having to commute to the office more, we realized that people might not have time to commit to a longer puzzling experience, but yet still crave the benefits and sense of achievement that a jigsaw can bring,†she comments.  Whether people want to take part in active mindfulness, or find an analogue activity away from the digital world, Wentworth Wooden Puzzles hope that they can continue to find jigsaw puzzles useful for mindfulness and wellbeing in the future.Â
