The curtain has come down on the Toy Trust’s biggest fundraiser of 2023, May Mayhem, a month-long initiative that is expected to raise somewhere in the region of £30,000 for charity.
The initiative saw, as the statement at the end of the 31 days of activity across all corners of the industry noted, “a number of creative initiatives from all corners of the industry have come together, wherever they are based to engage as teams, to undertake different forms of physical and non-physical challenges for a great cause”. The final total raised will be revealed after the cash has been collected and collated.
The activities were all raising cash for charity Whizz Kidz, an organisation that aims to help young wheelchair users.
Rachel Backshall, Director of Fundraising & Communications at the charity said: “We truly appreciate the support of Toy Trust and its supporters for assisting our transformative work with young wheelchair users.
“With only 18 of us, I’m so proud of the team for rising to this challenge. The steps equate to around 2,500 miles – the equivalent of walking Land’s End to John o’Groats four times, making this quite the achievement! Not only have we helped raise essential funds for Whizz-Kidz – the UK’s leading charity for young wheelchair users – but we’ve had such a fantastic time doing so”

In the UK there are 75,000 young people who rely on a wheelchair to be mobile, but most aren’t able to access one that fully meets their needs. Whizz-Kidz are committed to providing the right wheelchair, at the right time in every child’s life.
By the end of 2024, our goal is to double the number of young people that we support through wheelchair provision each year. We are therefore incredibly grateful for your appreciation of the importance of mobility, and for the donations received from May Mayhem that will help fund vital mobility equipment, giving children life-changing independence.
We cannot do this without your help. On behalf of Whizz-Kidz’s children and families, thank you so much for your generosity.”
Evolution PR was among those joining in the fun, and its team raised more than £1,000 for Whizz Kidz after notching up more than 5 million steps in just one month, smashing their target.

“Over the course of the 31 days, we monitored our collective progress via an online dashboard. It was great to see our combined efforts gradually tapping away at the ambitious goal. Already we’re putting our heads together to come up with our next team challenge.”
