The next Spielwarenmesse toy fair, which takes place in Nuremberg from 2 February to 6 February, is in the starting blocks. It has become something of a tradition for exhibitors to donate their toys to a good cause on the last day of the fair. However, the Covid-19 pandemic meant that the official handover from the last Spielwarenmesse in 2020 was postponed – until yesterday (28 September).
Around 30 pallets of cuddly toys, board games and wooden toys from more than 800 exhibitors were delivered by Christian Ulrich, the spokesperson of the executive board at Spielwarenmesse Eg, to St. Markus nursery school in nearby Oberasbach. Much to the delight of the children, he was assisted by Teena, the Spielwarenmesse mascot.
Spielwarenmesse eG has been donating toys to welfare institutions in Franconia and Germany for more than 40 years. The traditional charity campaign is a matter close to the heart of the world’s leading toy fair. Christian explained: “Children are the future of our society – that’s why we want to contribute to their development and bring them joy through various projects. We’re very grateful for the support we receive from our exhibitors.â€
Monika Zakel, head of St. Markus nursery school, commented: “All these wonderful innovative products enable us to add variety to our everyday activities. We, and of course the children, are so grateful for the generous donations and the professional way in which it has all been organised!â€
