Toy, game and puzzle giant Ravensburger has revealed a wealth of planned activity around its Disney Lorcana TCG for 2024, with events and sets that will draw in new players and appeal to established trading card game fans too.
The company has also unveiled dates for sets slated to appear throughout the year beyond the already announced Into The Inklands set due to arrive in the spring.
The announcements include new product, competitive events culminating in a world championship and new in-store organised play activity.
For beginners and novices, there’s the August 9 launch of Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway, a set aimed at easing new players into the game and introducing them to the world of TCGs. The prospect of getting new, younger players involved in TCGs is hugely exciting for retailers and the set contains everything two players will need to get them started.
“Disney Lorcana TCG has struck a chord with players, collectors and fans around the world and we’re so grateful for the support. It has proven to be a fantastic entry point for first-time TCG player”
Filip Francke, global head of games Ravensburger
The Gateway set includes, Ravensburger said, “two 30-card basic Disney Lorcana TCG decks, a two-player game board with character standees, rules and player’s guides, and additional cards that players will be rewarded to add to their decks as they learn about the card types and gameplay”.
Meanwhile, May sees the launch of Disney Lorcana Challenge in Europe and North America, where players compete at a regional level with the chance of progressing through to continent-wide championships in Europe and North America, ahead of the invitation-only Disney Lorcana World Championship early in 2025. Full details will be announced in March.
On a more local level, approved sites will be hosting Set Championships featuring Into The Inklands, with the offer of a unique card featuring Stitch – Rock Star. Further details will be announced in February.
As for the dates, three further sets will be launched following the February 23 specialist and March 8 trade-wide launch of Disney Lorcana Into The Inklands. The as yet unnamed set will drop on May 17 at specialist stores and two weeks later at all outlets; August 9 and 23 and November 15 and 29 respectively.
“Disney Lorcana TCG has struck a chord with players, collectors and fans around the world and we’re so grateful for the support. It has proven to be a fantastic entry point for first-time TCG players, and we will continue to do everything in our power to make the product available at MSRP pricing,” said Filip Francke, global head of games at Ravensburger. “As we move into 2024, we will continue to support our growing and diverse community through new discoveries for collectors, organized play and competitive events for players and new products that help beginning fans take their first steps into trading card games. We’re only just getting started, but consumer feedback and industry data supports our belief that this game will be around for a very long time.”
