Maped Helix, the specialist in school and stationery supplies based in Kingswinford in the West Midlands, has been awarded the prestigious Employer of the Year accolade at the Black Country Chamber Business Awards 2024.
The awards not only recognise employers who excel in developing their workforce and engage employees in company values, it also celebrates companies that promote diversity and inclusion, and clearly support employee welfare and engagement.
Having presented the brand’s incredible benefits, such as enhanced maternity packages, counselling, early finishes, life insurance and weekly mindfulness and Pilates sessions, to name a few, it is no surprise Maped Helix came out on top.
“We’re unbelievably proud to have earned the Employer of the Year award at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Awards! We’re incredibly proud of our team and the work that we do, and it’s amazing to be recognised for our ongoing efforts to be the best that we can be”
Always thinking of its staff, the brand undertakes annual surveys to obtain feedback from colleagues on their work-life balance, sense of fulfilment, job satisfaction, psychological safety and financial security. The results ensure the business is always listening to staff, continually improving the place of work for everyone and reviewing processes and policies to support all.

Gray Richmond, Maped Helix UK MD, said: “We’re unbelievably proud to have earned the Employer of the Year award at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Awards! We’re incredibly proud of our team and the work that we do, and it’s amazing to be recognised for our ongoing efforts to be the best that we can be. This year has been full of challenges, growth, and invaluable lessons, so it’s a testament to the dedication and hard work of our incredible team.”
The results speak volumes, with 100% of staff feeling welcomed when they joined the company, 97% of staff agreeing that the facilities contribute to a good working environment (a score which is 12% above the industry average) and ALL employees feel treated fairly regardless of their race, gender and sexual orientation. Further to this, out of the 34 strong team at Maped Helix, 12 have worked at the company for 10+ years, with 7 of those working at Maped Helix 20+ years.
As part of the judging process staff were asked what makes Maped Helix a great place to work. “No hierarchy which leads to better outcomes when facing problems” and “management and colleagues truly care about both your work life and wellbeing” were just two of the stand-out comments.
