The LEGO Group has announced details of its new model: the LEGO Vespa 125.

Inspired by the Vespa Piaggio – an Italian style icon in the world of mobility since 1946 – this 1,106-piece set pays tribute to the original Vespa with its pastel pale blue colour, which was one of the first shades that this luxury brand of scooter was made in.

Other features include a spare wheel, removable engine cover, brick-built engine, kickstand, working steering – and even a bunch of flowers in the bike’s basket. Fans can further celebrate the heritage of the set by adding an Italian licence plate and the Vespa logo.

Florian Muller, senior designer at the LEGO Group, said: “Working with the Vespa team to create this stunning automotive masterpiece was an incredible experience. Recreating the details of the original model to celebrate the classic Vespa was one of my favourite parts of designing this set. It offered me a chance to step back in time and let my imagination flow while designing, and we hope the experience is the same for fans.”

Marco Lambri, head of the Piaggio Group Design Center, added: “Working with the LEGO Group was an extraordinary experience, because it brought together two dreams – the LEGO brand and Vespa – which have in common the unlimited expressive potential that they offer their fans. These two outstanding brands are able to span different ages and are always able to reinvent themselves because they have the capacity to unite and to build in their DNA. As designers, the challenge was to have the soft shapes of Vespa co-exist with the form of LEGO bricks; a challenge I believe we met with flying colours.”

The LEGO Vespa 125 will be available from LEGO.com, LEGO Stores and other retailers globally from March 1.
