Fence Club Golf Day – Oakdale Golf Club Harrogate

Fence Club Goflf day

The much awaited Fence club Golf day was held on Wednesday 23rd June at Oakdale Golf club in Harrogate. This was the first industry event since the initial lockdown in 2020 & it’s fair to say it was a rip roaring success!

Not only was the day supported by Fence club members , who came out in force , but also members from our industry on both sides of the “ Fence “ , representatives from the licensing industry & friends / family of the Toy Trade! Our only absentees were our friends and Chairman Philip “Panzer “ Richardson from across the Irish sea , Government imposed it must be said, they will be back next year for sure!

Following Government protocols ref Covid, we were blessed with great Yorkshire weather & true Yorkshire hospitality from all the staff at Oakdale golf club. Including Rob the club pro & his team who added some great new fun additions to the day, including beat the Pro on the signature 9th hole at Oakdale.

The day itself raised £31,600 with £21,000 raised from the Auction, £3,790 from competitions / Fines and the raffle with the rest coming from Sponsorship and players. This truly shows how as an industry we can come together for the benefit of less privileged children who the Fence Club support annually through days like this.

The winner of the main Stableford completion was Harrogate local & friend of the industry Jason Shaw with 43 points, David Bowman best Fence Club member with 36 points.  A big mention to Lee Veitch from Super Awesome who for his efforts got a free one hour lesson voucher from the Pro at Oakdale golf club plus a one night stay in a hotel in Harrogate. Just shows propping up the field does have its benefits, enjoy Lee!

The Best team with 108 points was Joe Kissane, Jason Shaw, Mark Wooley and David Welsh.

“Remember it’s for the kids”

The great day’s golf was followed by a splendid dinner & much fun with just short of 90 people in attendance on tables of 6, socially distanced of course. Following the prize presentation by event organiser Simon Anslow, our Charity Secretary / past Chairman & resident compare / host Joe Kissane who presented the ethos of the Fence club & played a short video to show how funds raised from these events are distributed “Remember it’s for the kids”. Then some fun with the fines, issued by Jon Gregory & the main fund raising event the Auction by Steve Wells this topped off a great day out.

Special mention goes to Jonathan Nurse, who presented a trophy on the day in honour of “Uncle Les”, he was also fined for not bringing him!!!

The day wouldn’t have been a success without the organisation & much work and effort behind the scenes from Simon Anslow, supported by a subcommittee of Fence club members & helpers on the day thanks to Derek & Michael.  A hard act to follow from the great work Mark & Amanda Collinson have done in previous years.

See you all next year in 2022, to be part of the fun & fundraising.
