With roleplay at the heart of Casdon Toys, the company launched its ‘Helping out in the Home Corner’ initiative this summer that saw primary schools across the country benefit from an interactive and resource-led programme, while also enhancing the home corners in their classrooms.
When schools returned in September, 100 reception classes received Casdon Home Corner packs to help enrich the classroom environment – and give children and their teachers the resources to support and develop meaningful roleplay activities.
The packs were full of activity sheets, certificates, and stickers for children to take home, as well as child-sized home corner favourites from Casdon’s range of toys including Henry and Hetty Vacuum Cleaners and Cleaning Trolleys, a mini Morphy Richards Microwave and Kitchen Set plus a Pan Set, a Play Food Set, and an Electronic Washer and Wash Day Set.
Casdon Toys said feedback from the participating schools suggests the initiative was a resounding success: 98% said that the toys and resources helped the children settle into their new classroom surroundings at the start of term – and provided an opportunity for them to engage with their new classmates through play. And 93% said that the assets helped the class follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) areas of learning, with 95% saying the products enabled their class to engage more actively in roleplay. Plus, 95% said the products allowed the children to evolve their imagination, express their feelings, and improve their communication skills.
Almost all of the teachers added that their classrooms’ home corners had needed updating – and that they would not have been able to afford to do it otherwise.
“Casdon was built on my grandfather’s belief that toys need to have a role in children’s learning and development, as well as being fun to play with. We’ve been thrilled to see the reception that the Home Corner packs have had in schools”

Phil Cassidy, managing director of Casdon Toys, commented: “Casdon was built on my grandfather’s belief that toys need to have a role in children’s learning and development, as well as being fun to play with. We’ve been thrilled to see the reception that the Home Corner packs have had in schools – and to note such active and engaged play in the pictures that teachers have kindly shared with us. Some of the children have even gone to the trouble of writing us thank you letters. We’re delighted to have played a part in their introduction to school.â€
Following the success of this year’s campaign, Casdon has confirmed that it will run a similar initiative with schools in 2022.
